Our Commitment to
Sustainability
It’s what we do.
The continued search for energy efficiency to reduce our customers’ emissions/carbon footprint, the savings of scarce resources, and enabling the transformation of waste- and by-products to new or reusable resources, are driving forces for our HRS Process Solutions businesses.
Engineering of a highly efficient heat exchanger solution reduces the environmental impact (such as carbon emissions or the energy consumption itself) of industrial processes, improves workflow and productivity, enhances quality, and generates cost savings. Heat exchangers are used to transfer heat from one medium to another, and these media may be gas, liquid, or a combination of both. It is generally recognized that more than 90% of the thermal energy used in industrial processes passes through a heat exchanger at least once, making heat exchangers mission critical tools necessary for realizing increased energy efficiency, and proper management and control of industrial processes.
Heat exchangers are a proven and effective solution for reducing the volume of many waste streams. Forced recirculation, multi effect evaporation, and integrated dryer solutions ensure circular economy advantages both for energy and waste stream management.
HRS offers solutions for the evaporation and concentration of waste streams from a wide variety of industries, such as food production, water treatment, bioenergy, and mining.
Anaerobic Digestion and Biogas
Anaerobic digestion (“AD”) produces Biogas and a co-product called digestate, which can be a solid, liquid or a combination of both.
HRS designs, engineers and manufactures heat exchangers and other systems for use throughout the anaerobic digestion process, including:
- Feedstock and / or sludge heating
- Digestate / sludge pasteurization
- Digestate concentration and evaporation
- Exhaust gas cooling and energy recovery
Feedstock and / or Sludge Heating
Where required by legislation or quality demands, to control pathogens in digestate (for example when treating animal by-products or producing digestate to the various global quality standards), pasteurization may be required at some stage during the anaerobic digestion process. In addition, operators of AD plants see pasteurization as a way of demonstrating the quality of their digestate and increasing its value.
Digestate / Sludge Pasteurization
The HRS DPS (Digestate Pasteurization System) has been designed to handle difficult feedstocks and to maximize energy efficiency regardless of whether the feedstock is pasteurized prior to digestion or after the digestate has been through the AD process.
Digestate Concentration and Evaporation
After digestion and biogas production, the digestate is separated mechanically into solid and liquid phases (the liquid phase is often treated as a waste stream but can be converted into a valuable product) which can then be used as a biological fertilizer. Depending on the feedstock, it can be extremely rich in key fertilizer components.
Exhaust Gas Cooling
Combining cooling and recovery heat from exhaust gases can increase the efficiency of combined heat and power plants designed to generate electricity through the use of biogas.
HRS Process Solutions provides superior energy efficient solutions for our customers’ industrial processes not only today but also for the industrial processes of tomorrow, including net zero carbon industrial processes in alternative fuels, power generation, energy storage, and water treatment. The objective of increasing the energy efficiency of industrial processes is a universally important one for many reasons, and the mission of HRS Process Solutions from day one has been to meet that challenge for our customers by delivering best-in-class engineering, design, manufacturing, supply chain and project management expertise from planning through delivery.
